iScribble

Check out this fun thing called iScribble. Drawing on the internets? Yes!

Basically you can create a drawing board that other people have access to and you all sketch at once. I bet it’s full of jerks that draw mustaches on everything, but it could be fun regardless. And apparently Meredith Gran of Octopus Pie fame had a pretty awesome sketch party in there last night that I missed out on due to my regrettably early bed time. Oh well, I’ll just have to start one myself. In the mornings. When I’m awake…and no one else is. Crap.

Gary Arndt has been living THE life since March 2007. Gary sold his house, put his stuff in storage and hit the road. He’s been to over 40 countries and has been documenting his travels via podcast and photos along the way. I think my favorite is the Google Earth map he’s set up on his website…

everything-everywhere.com

When you check out the map, make sure you scroll towards Asia, it’ll blow your mind how much travel he’s done in that area. Gary also has a contest going on throughout the month of November so be sure to check out his blog for details. You can win some awesome souvenirs that he’s picked up during his travels so check it out. Here’s one of his videos on Vimeo. It makes me jealous because I was supposed to visit Fiji years ago but due to civil unrest in the nation we could not go. So now I’m living vicariously through Gary.

So much fun.

As a video editor I can be quite picky about the random videos posted around the internet, because I can see where people are half-assing and working below the professional level. On the other hand…when I find something that is extraordinary…well it tends to blow my mind since I’m not expecting to see such things on the internet.

Like this.

Beginning… Again.

So after royally screwing up something in one of the Wordpress .php files I had to remove and reinstall WP from my server. That means all the old posts, of which there were few are gone. It’s fitting that the site has a clean slate as I’m attempting to move forward and start over with how I handle my creative process as well. Usually the flow of ideas is so constant that I’m often swayed by the new ideas and the energy I have for them that I end up abandoning projects that I deem less important. SO…with the relaunch of the site I’m also trying to reinstall my work ethic. First step? Draw more often.

I’ve always considered myself an idea man. Lots of plotting and character design, outlines and branding, but very little actually production. I’ve always had a hard time loving my art, like many I’m severely critical of my work. So I’m going to be attending life drawing every Sunday that I’m not traveling. There’s a Dr. Sketchy’s at Great Scott for $7 so I’m going to try that and see how I like it. I’m excited to get back to basics and work on one of the fundamental aspects of comics…the art. It’s really interesting to lose sight of that when you get so wrapped up in the process that you don’t realize you’re lacking the skills to actually make it happen. I’ve got a lot of ideas bouncing around and I’ve got different art styles in mind for each so I’m going to be working really hard which should make the sketchbook link to the right really interesting to look at over the course of the coming months as I figure out styles and develop things into actual production work.
